Additional Craft Information:
Glass beads played a significant role in Marco Polo's time period. The part that was most significant was the making of these glass beads. These cut-gems are what Marco Polo brought back with him when he cam from the east. As soon as he brought these over, the Venetian people became very interested and inspired, so they started to create them themselves. This is now said to be a great art form done by the Venetian people.

Millefiori – If you know anything about any type of Venetian beading, you have most likely heard of these millefiori beads. Translated from Italian, the word millefiori actually means “thousand flowers”. In order to cut each of these beads, you neeed to cut them from glass canes. They are sliced in a very thin fashion. Once cut, these beads form a beautiful design by being pressed firmly together. They all have different designs. There is a special and unique design inside each of these glass canes. The designs that are most frequent in these are scenes such as nature, and also flowers. You can definitely use other images too.

Mosaic – These have a similarity to the mellefiori ones in the fact that they also use glass canes to be made. There is something that is different though, and that is that the designs you see on these are placed on the outside, rather than right inside the bead. The mosaic beads are very difficult to make, and they are probably the most difficult from all other beading forms.
Floral – These are special and have a nice characteristic that is also similar to the mellefiori beads. They are thinly sliced as well. Even though the millefiori's can have some flower designs, the floral's are specifically for designs and images of flowers. The floral beads are going to be more “natural” and not be as stylistically man made.
There are so many more types out there in the world today.
